When your relocation is scheduled, you will have a personal move
coordinator assigned to you to assist with every detail for every step of the way.
Services may include packing, crating, furniture disassembly, appliance disconnecting
and reconnecting and unpacking and maid services. For a company sponsored
relocation we will work with your company to insure all services are authorized and
invoiced with the original bill.
Be prepared to show your mover's representative everything you are going to move.
Don't forget those items stored in attics, under beds, in sheds, and at remote storage
locations or other family or friends' homes. (And, if things change, just call and keep
your mover advised.)
Tour your home and decide in advance if you would like to donate to a
charity or have a garage sale with any items you won't need at your new place.
Plan to use most of your food items so you won't need to transport them.
Be certain you have made any necessary arrangements for parking.
Some apartments and condos require moving only on certain days and
hours. They may require you to reserve an elevator or loading dock.
Your driver will need free access to the parking location with a clear driveway.
Arrange to have your major appliances, TV antennas/cables to be serviced
and/or disassembled as needed so they are transportation ready.
Check with your mover regarding their policy on particalboard furniture.
Movers can't take and flammables, caustics or perishables, including
aerosols, ammunitions, propane filled tanks, matches, gasoline, or
cleaning fluids. As always, any questions, just call us.
Drain any water from your garden hoses, and gasoline from your mower.
Make plans for your pets during moving day and transit time.
Your post office will have change of address forms for you, check in
the lobby or call or visit them at www.usps.com.
Decide if you are going to pack your own things or have the movers do this.
If you pack yourself, start packing early, this can make it much less stressful.
Your mover has a wide array of cartons and supplies available, just call.
If you are having your movers do the packing, they can use the original
electronics cartons you have for your things if these boxes are in good shape.
Label clearly. Have any special cartons marked OPEN FIRST as needed
for items such as your coffee maker & telephone. (You will thank yourself later
for this!)
Have a special place set aside for your items you will take with yourself,
such as personal documents, medications, etc. Label these "DO NOT LOAD."
(Post-it notes work fine for this purpose.)
Allow refrigerators and freezers to defrost at least 24-hours prior to loading and
wipe dry. To avoid unpleasant odors in a refrigerator/freezer that is to stay un-plugged awhile, place
a nylon stocking filled with charcoal or fresh ground coffee or baking soda in each compartment.
Keep your schedule free on moving day so you are available to answer questions,
sign paperwork and confirm addresses. Do a final walk through before the movers leave
to check each room is empty. Make sure everything is locked up, lights are out
and keys are transferred to new owner.
Be certain you give us your telephone numbers and alternate numbers so we
may stay in contact with you and our dispatch personnel can notify you of timing.
Confirmations are mailed to you when you book your move and additional telephone
contact is made to you 24 hours prior to each move.
